Boxing day we went to nan’s…………eventually!
We went to pick Danny up from PICU to be told he had had a profound desat which isn’t like Dan at all these days, apparently he was a sleep and had turned over and subsequently dropped his saturations. On closer examination of his sats monitor, we saw his lower limit was set at 80 per cent which we are very upset about as it ment he was already well on his way to a profound desat before anyone would have noticed.
The thing that annoys us is that if something goes wrong when he is in our care then something has to be put in place to prevent it from happening again but if a mistake is made when he is in the care of  PICU it feels like it is perfectly fine for example when he was left without a bile bag which resulted in him desating from wretching because he couldn’t be unclamped as there was no bile bag attached, it was just forgotten about and this we feel will be the same.
After alot of hmming and arrhing we were finally able to take Dan to nan’s for boxing day celebrations. To be fair he did look unwell but as soon as we got to Nan’s he perked up a treat and was made a fuss of by everyone so he was happy. He got more presents too. To be honest it will be unrealistic to expect danny to be any better than he is now untill winter is over and when he is home we are going to have to deal with his colds and coughs without PICU so we would rather get the practice in now. If at any moment we thought he needed to be back there we would take him.
We all had a really great day, infact this has been the best christmas ever as we were all together like a proper family.
