Dan for the last couple of days is doing well. He is out of oxygen and his bile is slowly reducing. He is off the anti bioctic and doing well on his peep of 9 on cpap. We have been out on various walks with the lovely weather to places like Wollaton Park, Jubilee Campus, Highfields. Its all been good fun until today when they excelled them selves again and gave Dan a ward nurse.
Now I’m no expert but surely this is playing with fire with regard to the MRSA and also what the nurse can bring to Dan in the way of bugs. The poor boy is only just back to normal over his recent cold and vaccinations so his immune system won’t be up to much yet. Rob told me he spoke to the ward nurse who asked Rob for his name and date of birth, if I was me they asked I wouldn’t have been so fore coming as I do not know this person from adam. I would have been asking the questions.
Anyway when I was told I rang the unit to speak to a sister. They told me they could do no other because of lack of staff. I am so sick of hearing about their lack of staff. Not our problem, we pay our taxes. We want the care our son should be receiving. If he was a ward case, he would be on a ward. I told the sister that I was concerned about what this nurse was bringing to Dan in the way of infections to which I was told again, there is nothing they can do because they have a lack of staff and a number of staff off sick. I’m not surprised, they are probably sick of that place. It ended with the sister saying I should come in and look after him myself. This is an unfair statement as we have Tom to consider as well. This unit is only supposed to be open to 4 beds as on most shifts they only have four and five staff members which has gone down from 6 and 7′s and they needed more staff then. Tomorrow this nurse will be back on the ward that they originated from.
