Missing Dan Dan

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

Rob, Kyle, Bridie, Tom and I have come to Cornwall for a few days for a much needed break. Not because of Dan but because of everyday life that now is. Dan has had a stormy few days, he is still full of cold and reacting bad to his booster immunisations that he had last week. He is still managing to smile occasionally but is back in oxygen. When we came camping in May it didn’t feel so bad leaving him because we were just down the road but now we are in Cornwall and its not a five minute trip back, I miss him so much more and the fact the cheeky the little monkey isn’t feeling to great makes me feel all the more bad for not being with him. I know he is being well looked after because he has had great nurses since we have been away but I still miss him. Rob feels the same. Dan has also changed his milk now to big boys milk called nutrini and is coping well with it (more…)

Apology

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

It would seem that what I was told happened the other day by the nurse didn’t happen! I wrote about the doctor refusing to come out of the staff room to discuss something about Dan and what I had read about MRSA. This was wrong as I have now learnt. It would now seem that what I was told and what happened were two different things. When asked to speak with me the doctor said they would be out soon and not, as I was informed, “refusing to come out because they were eating some fruit”.  So I truely apologise for unsetting you. I shouldn’t have taken the nurse seriously as I did think it was abit out of character for you but I was very upset about what I had read about MRSA and was worried about Daniel and I assumed what I was told must be true so ‘I am truely sorry’ doctor. There was obviously a communication breakdown which I will try and avoid in the future. This doctor is actually one of the best doctors on this rotation and I should have realised. That is the reason I asked to speak to this doctor in the first place and not the other doctor that was on shift.

A day worth waiting for

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Yesterday saw Dan celebrate his first birthday at home with almost everyone who has had lots of input in Dan’s life. There were several people from PICU, we were so pleased they came as it wouldn’t have been the same without them. Dan had such a busy day and he even found time to have a conflab over the net with the one and only cameraman who filmed us for ‘Birth Night Live’. (more…)

Happy birthday – 1 year in 3 minutes

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Well its been a long year and a lot has happened. In April 2006 we were told that because of his problems our unborn child had about a 10% chance of surviving, but against all of the odd’s Dan is here and this video is my tribute to our hero. I hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoy our little miracle child.

Relaxing Day

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Today has seen a chilled day for Dan for a change. We had a really lovely nurse and Dan just got lots of attention. Whilst the nurse went for her breaks I got to spend time alone with Dan as again they didn’t have anyone else to relieve her. We lay on his mat and just had some cuddles, you don’t know how nice that was. (more…)
