Last week Daniel really started to come on leaps and bounds. While he is still hooked up the a ventilator to provide constant pressure to keep his airway open his development has not been stunted by the whole thing at all. The last week has seen him start to really smile and laugh when he see us and when he play, which he is doing a lot now. He has also started to really grab at things that he’s playing with which is really cool to see but it does have a downside. This means that while he is sat playing he is grabbing the toys but he is also starting to develop a keen interest in all of the pipes and tubes that he currently has attached to him. This means you’ll often catch him hanging onto his trachy tube, in fact one o
f his favorite things is a spare piece of oxygen tubing that he naws on. Which brings me onto the next thing; it looks as though he is now starting to cut a tooth so he is just chewing on anything and everything that he can get his hands. Of course the obvious answer is to give him a dummy but since he was ventilated back in September he won’t take one, he just starts to gag on it. That said this week little Dan has taken a turn for the worse as he has been really poorly, he has been running a temperature and has been really off with it. After a lot of tests and checks they have decided that the cause of this is a bug called Staforious which was growing on his line but has made it’s way into his blood which in turn has caused him to have septacimia which is what has made him so poorly. He is still very poorly now but the hope is that he will start to improve soon.
