Well today saw Danny taken off the ventilator and put back onto good old CPAP though this time he’s had a pipe which has been put up his nose. This was done sometime this afternoon and unusually for Dan it was planned. The surgeon also visited Danny today and was able to make a meeting this afternoon as he was in surgery so needless to say that didn’t happen. What he did say was that they now think that his pneumonia might have been caused by his widened airway, due to the balloon (surprise), which has been building up secretions that went into his lung and caused the pneumonia. Only problem I have with that is the culture that they got from the first time he got it wa
s shown to be a bug which comes from the gut which we were told would have happened when he vomited and it went to his lung. So the question is where has this come from? They have told us that because of this they want the Ear Nose and Throat specialist to come and assess him, a job that was meant to have happened while he was at Queens as we were lead to believe it could only be done there. However, as the main person is away at the moment they contacted Great Ormond Street Hospital to ask for their input, they said that the second in command at Queens would be ok to review Danny and so far this hasn’t happened yet, as far as we know anyway. That said there is talk that he may need yet another operation this time for his “floppy” airway which we are told was caused by the balloon (!?) which will make this
his fourth operation, which is no joke for a little boy that is only 14 weeks old. Danny also had and ECG today to ensure that his heart is working correctly after having help with his breathing for so long, it is my understanding that this was fine but they want to follow it up with an ultrasound on it check it over fully. So this is where we are, more talk of operations and more talk about the balloon. The poor professor is getting a lot of stick for the balloon but it is only down to the balloon that Danny is here, lets face the cold facts here baby’s with defects as severe as Danny’s don’t usually survive so the professor must have done something right.
